Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 red onion, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3/4 C ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard, ground
  • 1 tsp cumin, ground
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder of your choice
  • kosher salt & black pepper to taste
  • Hamburger buns/Bread

Directions

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease.
  • Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook until the vegetables are softened.
  • Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve the sloppy joe mixture on hamburger buns.

Notes

  • 8-31-25 3/4 Recipe
  • I used Minced Turkey
  • For a spicier Sloppy Joe, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the chili powder mixture.
  • For a sweeter Sloppy Joe, add a tablespoon of brown sugar.
  • For a more tangy Sloppy Joe, add a tablespoon of cider vinegar.
  • Serve with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cheddar cheese, diced onions, or pickles.
  • I substituted the ground beef with left over turkey. You just need to heat through the turkey.
