Instant Pot Bone Broth

Already have Recipe Keeper?

Ingredients

  • 3-4 lb Bones (chicken, beef, or pork)
  • Water 10-12 cups (cold)
  • Apple cider vinegar 1 tablespoon
  • Optional vegetables -
  • Carrots (1-2, chopped)
  • - Celery (1-2 stalks, chopped)
  • - Onion (1, quartered)
  • - Garlic (1-2 cloves, whole)
  • OR use what you would like to use - it's all up to you, and you can make all of your bone broth batches different according to the taste you are going for.
  • OR see BECK'S HOMEMADE BONE BROTH for the things I generally like to use - the crockpot I have is 7 quarts, while the Instant Pot is only 4 quarts, so add your 10-12 cups cold water and bones before adding the other ingredients so you don't have too many solids and not enough water:
  • • 3-4 lb chicken feet and/or good quality beef bones (use more or less depending on the size of your pot) chicken feet are not available everywhere, and that’s fine; they are the richest in collagen content however.
  • • 1 whole onion, skin on, cut into quarters
  • • 2-3 carrots, skin on, cut into chunks
  • • 2-3 celery ribs, cut into chunks
  • • 1 whole head garlic
  • • 1 large piece fresh ginger
  • • ½ cup apple cider vinegar (use less for instant pot, as recommended above)
  • • Splash of olive oil
  • • Sea salt to taste
  • • About 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
  • • Any other herbs you want to use – right now I have fresh sage, oregano, marjoram in the garden and throw a handful or so into the crock
  • • Filtered water to fill crockpot

Directions

  • Prepare the Ingredients:
  • Place the bones in the Instant Pot. Add the chopped vegetables and apple cider vinegar.
  • Add Water:
  • Pour in enough cold water to cover the ingredients, ensuring not to exceed the maximum fill line of the pot.
  • Pressure Cook:
  • For chicken bones, set the Instant Pot to high pressure for 120 minutes.
  • For beef bones, set it for 180 minutes.
  • Natural Release: After cooking, allow the pressure to release naturally for about 20-30 minutes.
  • Strain the Broth: Open the lid carefully, strain the broth to remove solids, and store it in jars.
