Cheddar Biscuits

Ingredients
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1-2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 1/3 cups milk or buttermilk
- Optional Topping:
- 2 Tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- If you don't have self-rising flour, you may use:
- 2 cups All Purpose flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Lightly grease a baking pan, or line with parchment paper and set aside.
- 2. Measure flour into a bowl. Add shortening and combine with a fork or pastry blender until it is the size of a pea or smaller.
- 3. Add cheese, and milk in a large mixing bowl just until combined.
- 4. Using a 1/4 cup or cookie scoop, pour biscuits onto the greased baking tray, forming a dome-like shape. Ensure you space them evenly as they rise and spread.
- 4. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden on top and cooked through the center, but not overcooked- It should be fluffy.
- 5. Remove from oven. If you choose, mix butter and, garlic powder and spoon over the top.
- 6. Enjoy immediately or cool completely before storing in an air-tight container.
