Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole

Ingredients
- 1 28 ounce bag frozen tater tots
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ⅓ cup green bell pepper ((diced))
- ⅓ cup yellow onion ((diced))
- 3 cloves garlic ((minced))
- ¾ cup tomato sauce
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup water
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- ¾ teaspoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1½ teaspoons ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 2¼ cups cheddar cheese ((grated))
Directions
- 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan and set aside.
- 2. In a large skillet heat butter over medium-high heat. Add diced green bell pepper and yellow onion. Saute for 2 minutes.
- 3. Add ground beef and garlic to skillet and brown. While cooking break apart ground beef. Cook 5-6 minutes then drain excess fat.
- 4. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, water, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, ground black pepper and onion powder. Stir well until combined. Cook for 5 minutes to thicken up sauce.
- 5. Add ground beef to prepared baking dish. Spread evenly to coat entire pan. Sprinkle a layer of half of the cheddar cheese. Add tater tops on top of cheese evenly. Then sprinkle remaining cheese over the top.
- 6. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until tater tots are golden brown and cheese and sauce are bubbling.
- 7. Remove from oven and let cool 3-5 minutes. Enjoy!
