Ingredients

  • 1 28 ounce bag frozen tater tots
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ⅓ cup green bell pepper ((diced))
  • ⅓ cup yellow onion ((diced))
  • 3 cloves garlic ((minced))
  • ¾ cup tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • ¾ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ teaspoons ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2¼ cups cheddar cheese ((grated))

Directions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan and set aside.
  • 2. In a large skillet heat butter over medium-high heat. Add diced green bell pepper and yellow onion. Saute for 2 minutes.
  • 3. Add ground beef and garlic to skillet and brown. While cooking break apart ground beef. Cook 5-6 minutes then drain excess fat.
  • 4. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, water, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, ground black pepper and onion powder. Stir well until combined. Cook for 5 minutes to thicken up sauce.
  • 5. Add ground beef to prepared baking dish. Spread evenly to coat entire pan. Sprinkle a layer of half of the cheddar cheese. Add tater tops on top of cheese evenly. Then sprinkle remaining cheese over the top.
  • 6. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until tater tots are golden brown and cheese and sauce are bubbling.
  • 7. Remove from oven and let cool 3-5 minutes. Enjoy!
