Ingredients
- For the Meatballs
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Mushroom Gravy
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup water
Directions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Combine thoroughly. Shape the mixture into 1-inch diameter meatballs.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Once browned, remove the meatballs from the skillet and set them aside.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they become tender and browned, roughly 5 minutes. Sprinkle the flour over the mushrooms and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- Gradually pour in the beef broth and water while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer, allowing it to thicken into a rich gravy.
- Return the browned meatballs to the skillet with the mushroom gravy. Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the meatballs are fully cooked through and have absorbed the flavors of the gravy.
- Taste the gravy and adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Serve the Salisbury steak meatballs with the mushroom gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or pasta for a comforting and hearty meal.
