Bread • Bread
Source: Adapted from spruce eats
Serving size: 1 lb loaf
Prep time: 3 hours 13 mins
Ingredients
- 170 g milk (approximately 2/3 cup)
- (15g milk powder plus 155 g water)
- 42 g honey
- 28 g softened butter
- 6 g salt
- 240 g bread flour
- 21 g potato flakes
- 4 g instant or bread machine yeast (approximately 1 tsp)
Directions
- I warm the milk in the microwave for about 45 seconds . Put all your wet ingredients in the pan first then the flour and potato flakes. Make a divot in the flour and place the yeast inside the divot.
- I use the basic cycle #1 on my KBS machine, 1 lb loaf light crust setting.
- Make sure to check the dough ball it should be tacky but not sticky
- Remove from pan immediately and let cool on a wire rack before slicing. I place a tea towel over the loaf for the first 10 minutes as it's cooling out of the pan.
- Tips
- This comes out nice and soft like sandwich bread. (My cost 1.04 for the 1 lb loaf)
Notes
- A slice of store-bought white bread is approximately 20 g. I get 14 slices from my 1 lb loaf which makes each slice 36 to 37 g per slice. The slices are bigger than store-bought bread. Most of the time I only use one slice of bread to make myself a sandwich. When I do the math, the calories are approximately the same per gram... 2.68 calories per gram of bread.
- Store-Bought white bread serving size is two slices or 41 g and the calories are 110 for 41 g.
- This bread is 37 g per slice approximately, and 99 calories per slice.
