Chifteluțe cu Piure - Meatballs w/ Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients
- For the Meatballs (Chifteluțe)
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- For the Mashed Potatoes (Piure)
- 3-4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 1/4 cup milk or water
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt to taste
Directions
- Meatballs (Chifteluțe)
- In a large bowl, combine ground pork, ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well with your hands until just combined.
- Shape into small meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When hot, add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- Mashed Potatoes (Piure)
- Boil the chopped potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, salt, and milk, and mash until smooth and creamy.
- Serve
- Serve the meatballs with mashed potatoes and your favorite gravy or sauce.

- In Moldova, Chifteluțe are often served with a mushroom or meat-based sauce, like a brown gravy or a creamy sauce. You can also add some chopped fresh dill or parsley on top for extra flavor and color.
