Chicken Paprikash

Main Dish • Chicken/Poultry (pieces), Easy (hard to screw up), Low spoons

Ingredients

  • 3+ lbs boneless chicken
  • 1.5 cup chicken broth
  • black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup paprika (this is not a typo)
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • 1 red bell pepper, in strips
  • 1 shallot, in thin slices
  • 3 Tbsp tomato paste (~50g)
  • 1/2 cup light sour cream
  • 1 Tbsp flour
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • carb to serve over (noodles/dumplings are probably most traditional, we like mashed potatoes)

Directions

  • Everything in the first section, into the slow cooker, about 3-4 hours on low or until stuff falls apart.
  • Mix the last 3 ingredients together and add to the crockpot, let heat through with the lid off while you prepare your carbs.
  • pour over carbs!

Notes

  • we usually use chicken thighs for this, just remove the big chunks of fat. You could use something with bones in, but account for their weight so you still have 3+ lbs of meat.
  • this recipe also works with rabbit but if you brined the rabbit to take out the gameyness, then don't add salt at the end.
  • Thyme is fine if you don't have marjoram on hand
